| Black Charolais are purebred Charolais registered by the Canadian Charolais Association that have been bred up to purebred from an Angus base using Red Charolais genetics to eliminate the genes and gene interactions that result in the traditional smoke or cream colors that result when one crosses white Charolais cattle with black or red cattle of other breeds. Used on white Charolais females, these purebred Black Charolais sires will likely produce smoke or cream color calves that are purebred Charolais. Used on Red Charolais, they have the potential to sire heterozygous black calves. Used on black cows that have no red genes, they will sire black calves. |
